God of War: Chains of Olympus

The upcoming release of God of War: Chains of Olympus in the God of War video game series, developed specifically for the PSP handheld gaming system. The game was scheduled to be released by Christmas 2007, but the release date has been pushed back to March 4, 2008 in order to make more improvements and take advantage of the newly unlocked clock speed of the PSP system (333 MHz rather than 222 MHz for faster loading times and better graphics).

Because of the delay, Ready At Dawn Studios announced and promises a playable downloadable demo sometime maybe at the end of September 2007. This game will be the second project developed for the PSP by Ready at Dawn, the same team responsible for Daxter, another handheld spin-off of a console series.

A demo disc has been announced for release in September 2007, only for PlayStation Underground members as found on the God of War: Chains of Olympus homepage. Accordng to an e-mail sent to Playstation Underground members there is new information that the demo disc will contain an exclusive level not released to the press called the Cave of Eos. In this level you must get to the goddess Eos to receive a special magic powerup, but will be faced with a slew of enemies along the way, including an updated version of the minotaur.

The Island of Rhodes website uncovered that God of War: Chains of Olympus is a prequel to the God of War series. It chronicles the various adventures of Kratos throughout the 10 years he spent in bondage of the Gods (hence the game's name which implies a bond between the series' protagonist and the deities of Olympus) preceding the events of God of War.

At a God of War II launch event on March 13, 2007, God of War II director Cory Barlog indicated that the PSP God of War game would be a spin-off, side story, or prequel of the main God of War video game series: "It is its own story that connects to the overall story. God of War, God of War II, and then if all the stars align God of War III will be the telling of a trilogy. This PSP story will be a further fleshing out." (Source: 1up.com)

Soul Calibur: Legends

Wii Video GamesDeveloped exclusively for the Wii, Soul Calibur Legends, puts gamers in a third person action adventure that promises a unique access to the series by truly appying the Wii's Remote and Nunchuk. Choosing from characters both old and new, players let go of the special attacks on hundreds of enemies and a host of large bosses. Developed and published by Namco Bandai.

Wii Video Games

A character listing in a carry through game can be a tricky thing. Come at it from the position of a ground-up game like Ninja Garden or God of War and adding even a second playable character would be gigantic news. But from the position of a fighting series making the change of state to an action game, everyone wants to play as their favorite fighter -- a lesson Namco presumptively learned after 2005's Death by Degrees.

Wii Video Games

With Soul Calibur Legends, the developers are striking a balance between these two extremes. Company representatives won't commit to an official number yet, but they tell us it'll be larger than we've seen but smaller than in a typical Soul Calibur fighting game, so we're guessing somewhere in the six to 10 range. At E3, we had a chance to try out the first two of those, Siegfried and Mitsurugi, and in a recent updated look at the game, we were able to go hands-on with a third playable character, Taki, as well as check up on the title's progress over the past couple months. Release date will be this November 2007.

Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles

PSP Video GamesCastlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles, known in Japan as Akumajō Dracula X Chronicle is a PSP game in the popular Castlevania series of games by Konami. The game is essentially a remake of Akumajō Dracula X Chi no Rondo with 3D graphics, but it still retains the 2D gameplay mechanics (2.5D graphics). The game will also include the original Akumajou Dracula X: Chi no Rondo as well as a port of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

Konami legend Koji Igarashi ("Iga") has been one of Nintendo's biggest handheld supporters. He's flooded the Big N's systems with multiple Castlevania games, and most (if not all) of them have been extremely good. But if you're a PSP owner, the vampire hunting hasn't been so prolific. In fact, up until now, PSP fans haven't had a single chance to take on the classic Belmont legacy. As it turns out, their luck has finally changed.

Konami introduced its first PSP entry in the long-running series with Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles.Unlike its DS counterparts, however, DX Chronicles isn't an original game with never-before-seen characters; it's a remastered three-title retro collection with new goodies thrown in for shiggles. Truth be told, one of the three games is actually the biggest extra of them all. Dracula X: Rondo of Blood "Arranged Version" is a re-imagining of the Japanese-only PC engine title from 1993 -- and it's the intended star of the anthology.

The first Castlevania ever designed for release on a CD, Rondo of Blood was packed full of content. The new format allowed for full-on cutscenes, high-quality audio, and the best graphics the franchise had seen. Even more importantly, though, there were 12 massive levels to explore (seven standards and five hidden) and the branching pathways and multiple endings kept players coming back again and again. Users could even control two completely different characters (Richter Belmont and Maria Bernard) and use their sub-weapons to the fullest with the very cool special attack, "Item Crash." In other words, Rondo of Blood was extremely deep for its time and it's a shame that it never came out in the English-speaking world.

Fortunately for everyone, Konami is looking to amend its oversight by giving us Rondo and plenty more. Rebuilt using 3D visuals, "Rondo Arranged" boasts a number of modern special effects, up to date models, and highly detailed environments that just weren't possible back in the day. Widescreen optimization, a song collection system, and a few other secret additions that Iga doesn't want to talk about yet are also included.

TEKKEN 5: Dark Resurrection Online

Tekken 5 is the 6th episode in the best - selling Tekken video game franchise. It integrates a faster, better graphics, more fluid fighting system, returning characters, and some of the Tekken series' trademark unlimited stages. Tekken 5 is attributable for taking the series back to its roots. New to Tekken 5 is the crush system which affects the vulnerability of a character while he attacks. For example, a move with jumping properties, such as a hopkick, will be completely invulnerable during most of its animation time to all of an opponent's low attacks.

The home adaptation is a collector's edition of sorts, as it includes full arcade emulations of Tekken 1, Tekken 2, Tekken 3 and Star Balde. Tekken 5 also allowed players to customize their fighter for the first time, allowing them to change the colors of their outfits, buy additional costumes (only available to a few characters), and equip them with items by using money gained from playing the Story, Survival, and Arcade Battle modes. It also retains its wall juggling concept from Tekken 4, but the element is effectively less easy to abuse and easier to defend against.

The game also uses a finite button system, incorporating a Block and Jump button as well as sizing down the attack buttons to simple "Punch" and "Kick" buttons. Along with fighting various Jack models in the mini-game, the player must pursue minor key quests to proceed.

Tekken 5 includes a fighting mini-game in direct lineage to the Tekken Force modes in Tekken 3 and Tekken 4 called "Devil Within". This mini-game follows the adventures of Jin Kazama as he searches the G Corporation in search for information on his missing mother and other answers. Being somewhat story oriented, the player is not permitted to use their own choice of characters like previous iterations. This mode is one of the two ways to unlock the playable version of Jin's Devil incarnation.
